However, clearing a square of this size becomes more difficult the more densely the square is occupied. Fields with 130 to 140 mines (28%) already have a very high degree of difficulty. Having even more mines laid already results in many failed attempts to get only a first approach to mine clearance.

Thanks to the indications given by these numbers, you can know where the mines are located in the cells on the grid. If a cell indicates « 1 » and there is only one undiscovered cell nearby, it means that a mine is hidden in that particular place, so you have to put a flag! and so on for « 2 » and « 3 », etc… You can deduce that some cells do not contain mines on the board.

You’ve won the game when you’ve opened all squares that don’t contain a mine. So, essentially flagging is not required, it’s only there to help you keep track of where you think the mines are. The real way to win is open all the non-mine squares. Chording: Use this feature to reveal multiple cells at once. When a numbered cell has the exact number of flagged mines around it, hold Shift and left-click on that numbered cell to automatically uncover the remaining unflagged cells nearby. For example, if a cell shows « 3 » and you’ve flagged three nearby cells as mines, hold Shift and left-click the « 3 » to reveal the other surrounding cells safely.
Reveal Cells: Left-click on a cell to uncover it. If it’s a mine, the game ends. If not, you’ll see either a number showing how many mines are in the surrounding eight cells or a blank space if there are no mines nearby.
