Another reason is that the best schools in some regions, not meeting one or more criteria of accrediting international institutions, have decided not to change their policy. Prominent examples are the top US business schools: Harvard Business School, Wharton, Stanford GSB, Columbia Business School, Chicago Booth, etc., which do not meet the requirements for three years of work experience for students nominated by AMBA.

Thus, the accreditation of the « Triple Crown » is a mark of quality for MBA programs around the world, which consider the relevant experience to be a fundamental factor in the successful completion of the program.

In Ukraine, no educational institution has triple accreditation, however, the MBA programs of the University of Sheffield in Ukraine and the International Institute of Business are AMBA accredited.

AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS: differences in accreditation

Each of these three institutes evaluates business schools according to different criteria and in different areas.

1) Area of ​​accreditation

AACSB has the widest scope, as the accreditation of management and accounting programs extends to the entire university. AMBA has the narrowest area of ​​accreditation, as it only accredits MBA (full-time, part-time, executive, distance learning), MBM (Masters in Business and Management) and DBA programs. The scope of EQUIS accreditation is in the middle, as this institute accredits business schools, not universities, and not specific programs.

2) Duration of the accreditation process

AACSB: 5-6 years. AMBA: 9-12 months. EQUIS: 2-3 years.

3) Re-accreditation

AACSB: 10-year accreditation with simplified re-accreditation for the fifth year. AMBA: full re-accreditation every 3 or 5 years. EQUIS: full re-accreditation every 3 or 5 years.

4) Group of experts

The AACSB peer review team includes deans and business school administrators. The AMBA evaluation team includes deans, their deputies, program directors and one AMBA representative. The EQUIS team includes only deans.

5) Quantitative and qualitative criteria

AACSB puts forward more quantitative criteria (control). AMBA has more quality criteria. EQUIS is halfway between AACSB and AMBA.

6) Internationalization

International accreditation of Ukrainian business schools

As the number of offers in the business education market grows, potential students are faced with the question of choosing a school that can provide quality educational experience.

One of the most objective criteria when choosing a place of future study can be the level of international recognition of the business school, which is not only an indicator of the quality of educational experience, but also an important factor to pay attention to in the business environment. An important component of such recognition is accreditation and presence in the rankings at the international level.

The undisputed leaders in setting world standards in business education are three world-renowned accreditation bodies: AACSB International (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) – the main accrediting organization in the United States, AMBA (Association of MBAs) – a European accrediting organization based in the UK and EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development), the European Foundation for Management Development, based in Brussels.

Together, these three organizations are called the « triple crown » (accreditation), which is accredited by most business schools in the world. Today, only 68 global business schools have such triple accreditation.

Ukraine does not have the accreditation of the American Association for the Development of University Business Schools (AACSB), but there are programs accredited by the International Association of MBA Programs (AMBA), as well as business schools, although not accredited, but members of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). …
